The engineering years left a habit. Build to spec. Verify before shipping. Trust patterns more than opinions. That habit is still under the work, even when the work looks symbolic from the outside.

What changed later was the layer above the engineering. The system thinking remained, but a different question got added: what is the field this system is supposed to operate in, and what does it actually require?

Engineering builds. Operating decides what is worth building.

That shift is the difference between executing well and initiating cleanly. An executor can build any system that is asked for. An operator declines the wrong system before any energy is spent.

Most of what looks like intuition in the current work is just this older engineering instinct, applied one layer up.
